Fortune eyes the future

Mississauga singer J.D. Fortune can't wait to put the past behind him.
After
a meteoric rise to fame that took him from sleeping in his car to
becoming lead singer of INXS and a rapid fall that saw him split with
the Aussie rockers over his cocaine habit, Fortune has his eyes set
solely on the road ahead.
"It's time to sort of get beyond where
we left off and start something new," he told The Canadian Press as he
readied himself for a cancer fundraiser on the East Coast this coming
weekend.
Fortune, who claims he was misquoted about his
departure from his INXS mates, is promoting a new solo album called
Death Of A Motivational Speaker.
The
new release will be slowly rolled out on Fortune's website and the
singer hopes to highlight it on the summer festival rock circuit.
"Let's talk about why I am here today. Not where I was yesterday. Why I'm here today ... please," he told a CP reporter.
On
the other hand, Fortune mentioned that he has the blessing of his INXS
bandmates for his solo project and career. And if the door were ever
opened to another world tour or to recording, he would not be averse to
signing on again.
"If they had another record coming out, I'd be the first guy in line, obviously," Fortune told CP.
The
singer, who was born in Mississauga before moving to Nova Scotia with
his mom as a youngster, came back to Ontario in his teens. After
briefly attending Cawthra Park Secondary School, Fortune worked various
gigs, most notably as an Elvis impersonator, until he got his big break.
